Daniel Catana's opera Florencia en el Amazona tells the story of opera singer Florence Grimaldi, who is traveling by boat on the Amazon River to return to the place where she once met the love of her youth - the butterfly hunter Cristobal. Interpretation of the opera in The Theater Dt. Gallen is held in a sanatorium, where the journey takes place both in physical space (on stage) and in a surreal imaginary world (video projections). The scenography is designed in the color of reflective copper, as a reference to the brown water of the Amazon River, while the turquoise blue properties are in the color of the Emerald butterfly, which is hunted by Cristobal. The staging performance takes place on the proscenium, allocating the actual stage space to a symphony orchestra separated by a projection tulle.
